"We may lose our Premiere League title" - Mancini

Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini says the club's failure to sign Robin Van Persie could cost them the Premier League title. The Dutchman was up for grabs in the summer after he opted to move away from Arsenal and City were thought to be among the clubs trying to wrap up a deal. Van Persie opted to join Manchester United in a deal worth £22million but only now has it been revealed how close City came to landing the striker, who has been a revelation for the Reds this season.
Mancini says they were 'very close' to landing the player but did not go into the reasons why they failed to conclude a deal. "We wanted Van Persie because we knew he could be an important player," Mancini revealed. "He is totally different from our other strikers. We wanted him for the Champions League and for the Premier League. "We were very close. We were sure he was for us but this did not happen and now we can do nothing. We were very close three or four months before he joined United."

  1. He can buy him some other time, even if not now.
